Lora Kopel Weliky, 60, died peacefully at the Saint Luke’s Hospice House in Kansas City, Missouri on September 14, 2020.
Lora was a long-time resident of Estes Park, Colorado. Lora was born in Boston, MA and grew up there, Monroeville, PA, and Hopewell, NJ. She attended Illinois Wesleyan University and received a B.A. in English. Lora moved from New Jersey to Estes Park in 1991, in part to be near her parents, Irving and Virginia Weliky, while raising her son Larry.
Lora worked for the Larimer County Clerk and Recorder office and then for IBM. She particularly enjoyed her job with IBM which gave her the opportunity to teach and educate and to travel throughout the United States, Europe, and Asia.
Lora was a kind, caring, vivacious, outgoing, and sometimes dramatic person. Lora had passion for singing, music, and theater. She had a beautiful soprano voice and sang semi-professionally and also in a choir that performed at Carnegie Hall in New York City. She was in community theater in both New Jersey and Estes Park and particularly enjoyed her role as Mother Superior in a production of Nunsense. Lora was also passionate about cooking and enjoyed taking cooking classes, and sharing cooking and meals with others, and also watching shows on the Food Network. She also enjoyed reading and was a fan of game shows like Jeopardy!
Lora is survived by her son Lawrence with whom she was very close throughout her life, sister Joan Conaway who provided great support to Lora, Joan’s husband Ron, brother Jim Weliky and his wife Carin Schiewe, and brother David Weliky and his companion John McKinley, Jr. Lora enjoyed close relationships with her aunt Janice Barrett, and cousins Tom Barrett, Jane Campbell, and Madelene Cutting. She also enjoyed friendships with many people in the Estes Park area and was particularly close with Sandy and Lee Lasson and Joe Hall, who provided Lora with much support and companionship.
Lora is preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Irving and Virginia Weliky of Estes Park.
