Work Begins On Fall River Retaining Wall At Wiest Drive Bridge

The Town of Estes Park Public Works Department and contractor Mountain Concrete are beginning to replace approximately 45 feet of riverbank retaining wall just west of the Wiest Drive auto bridge, along the south bank of Fall River. The auto bridge entrance to the Wiest parking lot will remain open to traffic and pedestrians. The contractor will use approximately 10 parking lot spaces for equipment. Work is scheduled to be complete by December 31, weather permitting.

This year’s heavy spring runoff eroded the fieldstone retaining wall and undermined its structure. Public Works determined that maintenance would be ineffective and the wall would need to be replaced.
