William “Ty” Tyrrel
Former Estes Park resident Ty Tyrrell died October 10, 2011 in Sealevel, NC. He was 87 years old.
William R. Tyrrell was born July 24, 1924 in Manistique, MI. His parents were Chester and Goldie (Knaggs) Tyrrell. He graduated from Manistique High School and the Merchant Marine Academy in West Point, NY. He was soon commissioned as an Ensign in the United States Navy and served during World War II. After his service, he worked privately including as Captain for Exxon Oil Company from 1948 to 1982.
On January 7, 1974 he married Anne Sich in Elkton, MD. The couple moved to Estes Park, CO in 1976, spending winters in Naples, FL. Ty retired in 1982 after 40 years on the sea. In Estes Park, he was a member and past Exalted Ruler of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge 2617, past member of Estes Park Masonic Lodge AF & AM 183, the Scottish Rites Consistory, the El Jebel Shrine and American Legion Post 119.
In 2006, Ty moved to Snug Harbor on Nelson Bay, a retirement center in Sealevel, NC. He is survived by his wife Anne of Estes Park, a son Ty William and daughter Denise, stepsons Glen & Paul Sharo, brother Chester Tyrrell of Cridersville, OH and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Jim.
