Us 34 Opening Between Estes Park And Drake For Resident Access Only
This Sunday marks the fourth time since construction began that Drake residents are being allowed back to their homes. It will be the first time, however, that they won’t be asked to leave the canyon by 5 p.m. to avoid interfering with construction activities.
For the past three weeks, Kiewit Construction crews have cleared enough rock from the roadway, rechanneled the river back into its banks in several places and graded enough dirt to provide a two-lane dirt road down to Drake. This will enable residents to travel back and forth to Estes Park as needed while still allowing for the movement of construction equipment on US 34.
Access to the canyon is only allowed from the Estes Park side at this time and is restricted to residents only. Anyone entering the canyon still needs to display a rear view mirror tag to get through the barricade in Estes Park.
