Town Board To Consider Ordinances On Marijuana Establishments

At its regular August 13 meeting, the Estes Park Town Board will consider proposed additions to the municipal code to prohibit retail marijuana establishments within Estes Park town limits, as well as prohibit private marijuana clubs in commercial and industrial establishments. The meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. in the Town Board Room of Town Hall, 170 MacGregor Avenue. Residents are encouraged to attend and participate in the discussion.

Pursuant to requirements of Amendment 64 approved by voters in November of 2012, the Town of Estes Park will considering exercising the local option to add an ordinance prohibiting marijuana establishments including testing facilities, production facilities and retail stores. Also pursuant to Amendment 64, the Town will amend the municipal code to reflect that it cannot prohibit the possession, use and non-commercial transfer of one ounce or less of marijuana by individuals ages 21 and older.

Any new or revised ordinances would take effect 30 days after adoption and publication. Amendment 64 requires that local governments choosing to prohibit retail marijuana establishments have those rules in place by October 1, 2013.

The draft ordinances will be available for review by Friday, August 9 at www.estes.org/boardsandmeetings within the Town Board packet materials, as well as in Room 130 of Town Hall. Written comments may also be submitted to Town Clerk at townclerk@estes.org no later than 12 p.m. August 13. For more information, please call 970-577-4777.
