Voting Yes For The Anschutz Wellness Center And The Tax Increase

Editor: Next week I will vote “Yes” and welcome the EPMC/Anschutz Center to Estes Park; I will vote “No” to rule out a conservation easement on Lot 4. For me, the infusion of jobs and capital into our community trumps desire to protect the small parcel of land behind Safeway. As one who helped to deliver a 500-acre conservation easement to this community twenty-two years ago, I find arguments against Anschu ...

“Do Or Mildew”

To The Editor: Please don’t be selfish when you vote on Ballot issue 1B which would approve the sale of Lot 4 which is behind the Safeway. Vote yes. Does anyone in town really believe we don’t have enough open space or that the elk don’t have enough space considering that we are bordered by a National Park and a National Forrest? The flood was a huge blow to our town, and we need some new development or thi ...

Is It Really Fair?

To the Editor: Are women fairly represented? The Trail Gazette’s Editorial Board has endorsed three men for Town Trustee. While the men may have good qualifications, I find it surprising that with four men and four women running for Town Trustee, the all-male Trail Gazette’s Editorial Board did not find even one woman qualified to be among the top three candidates for Town Trustee. Two women, Wendy Koenig a ...

Thoughts About The Candidates And Ballot Issues

To The Editor: Wendy Koenig has served us well over the last four years as an excellent Town Trustee. If she is willing to give us another four years of her service, we should be grateful. She is willing to openly confront tough issues that face our community, and we should be grateful. I will vote for Wendy Koenig for Town Trustee, and I hope you do the same. Paul Fishman is committed to the town, understa ...

The Wellness Center Makes Sense

Dear Editor, “Lot 4.” Simple words that engender significant emotional reaction from many in Estes Park. What is Lot 4? It is an out-lot of the Stanley property between the hotel and the Safeway. It is basically a dirt lot that the Town originally purchased to use as a possible expansion or substitute for the Municipal Building, if needed. It has not been needed as such by the Town. Several years ago the To ...

We Are Estes Park

To The Editor: My prior letters have dealt with Group Think, the increased number of "alphabet" groups, and the "political-type parties" buying votes. I am very concerned with the direction our town is going. Candidates and issue groups are spending more and more to "get elected" with splashy parties and events. Elected and appointed people are becoming more entwined with issue group members. Issue group me ...

Who Ya Gonna Call?

To The Editor, Having watched the Estes Park news for over a decade now, it is hard to miss the fact that it has been necessary to be Mountain Strong for quite some time. In addition to the recent challenges facing our community, we share the issues facing the entire United States. We are being asked to continually redefine ourselves in the face of rapid social and economic change. The question facing Estes ...

Supporting 1% Sales Tax

To The Editor: I would like to share my support for the upcoming 1% sales tax proposal. Nobody likes a tax increase, of course, but it's a small price to pay for the construction of a new community center. This center will go a long way in meeting the social, recreational, and educational needs of seniors as well as families in our community. Larry Emsing Estes Park Sr. Citizens Center Volunteer ...
