Thomas Abraham Icenogle, age 92, died August 17, 2014, at Estes Park, Colorado. He was born August 20, 1921, in Cumberland County, Illinois, to John C. and Nellie Oakley Icenogle. In 1922, the family moved to Coles County, Illinois.
Tom attended Mattoon High School, where he enrolled in Junior ROTC, attaining the rank of Cadet Commander. After attending Utterback Business College, he was employed at the Army Air Corps Supply Depot in Springfield, Illinois.
Tom entered the Army Air Corps in September, 1942 and, upon completion of the Air Force’s cryptology course at Pawling, New York, he served as a cryptographer at Anchorage and Port Heiden, Alaska, and was discharged in October, 1945.
Returning to Mattoon, Illinois, he managed Icenogle Foods and the Icenogle Basket Grocery. In 1950, he moved his family to Lincoln, Nebraska, where Tom was a sales representative for Progress Industries and later for Hillenbrand Industries, retiring in 1986 and moving to Estes Park, Colorado in 1988.
On January 7, 1943, he married Elizabeth M. (Betty) Jones, who passed away June 27, 2010.
Three sons survive, Robert Alan Icenogle, Springfield, Nebraska; Thomas Edward Icenogle (Mary), Denver, Colorado, and John Philip Icenogle (Barbara), Kearney Nebraska. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Margot Michelle Icenogle-Larsen (Matt), Kearney, Nebraska; Samuel Hogan Icenogle, Hastings, Nebraska; John Dayton Icenogle, Lincoln, Nebraska; Laura Mary Icenogle (David Bushnell), Seattle, Washington; Thomas Michael Icenogle, Los Angeles, California, and Grace Helen Icenogle, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He is survived by one great-grandson, Jacob Abraham Bushnell, Seattle, Washington.
Tom is also survived by his brothers Jesse Icenogle, Mattoon, Illinois, and Arthur Icenogle, Coarsegold, California, and his sister Adele Cunningham, Bartlesville, Oklahoma. His parents, two brothers and two sisters and a half-brother and two half-sisters predeceased him.
Tom was a member of the Presbyterian Community Church of the Rockies, where a Service will be held Saturday, August 23 at 1:00 p.m. Visitation will be at Allnutt Funeral Chapel Friday evening from 5:00 to 7:00.
