The Elktones To Play Dick Orleans Memorial Fundraiser This Saturday!
The Elktones, Brad Fitch, Mark Rashid and Brad Doggett, will perform a concert honoring their bandmate Dick Orleans at the Elk Meadow Lodge, 1665 Highway 66, this Saturday, July 19 at 7 p.m. The public is invited to attend.
Orleans, who was a regionally renowned musician and wildlife photographer, passed away suddenly in May. Orleans was particularly gifted at photographing pikas in Rocky Mountain National Park. With funds raised at the concert, the Elktones will make a donation to the Pika Project through the Craighead Institute, a non-profit organization with a long history of ecological research.
“This is a cause that was important to Dick,” said Fitch. “The Pika Project is funded through grants and donations and we hope to raise a substantial amount to make a donation to them in Dick’s name and memory.”
Orleans worked with The Pika Project for the past five years and the spring issue of ‘Colorado Life Magazine’ featured his pika photos. Chris Ray of the University of Colorado is the head of this organization and will be in attendance as well.
All are welcome to join in the July 19 celebration. An entry fee of $5 will be charged at the door.
