The Behind The Chutes Tour At Rooftop Rodeo Is A “Must Do!”

Rodeo-Chutestour(2)Purchase a ticket for the tour called Behind the Chutes and take a walk on the wilder side of the Rooftop Rodeo! Once you cross the arena floor, you will enter the world of livestock, contestants and rodeo. During the tour, you’ll get up close and personal with the animals and talk with the people who make the exciting sport of rodeo possible.

While on the tour, you’ll learn about the history of rodeo, talk to the 2013 Rooftop Rodeo Queen, Michelle Claypool and watch a demonstration preparing a horse to be ridden during the show. Once back at the steer pens, you’ll learn about steer wrestling, as children from your group bust out of the chute to reenact this timed event. Climb on to the platform where Cowboys stand as they prepare to mount their ride for the night. Go ahead, lean over the edge, peer down into the chute and imagine what it would feel like to see a huge bull or bronc waiting to be let out into the arena with nothing but instinct and fierce determination to throw you off in the dirt! You’ll stand next to the pens full of bulls and broncs(kept at a safe distance), while professionals tell stories of rodeo and teach you about the sport. These men and women may include the stock contractor, members of the arena crew, the rodeo announcer, or the clown. They’ll talk about breeding healthy, animal athletes, entertaining crowds, explain equipment, and educate you on the safety of the events. It’s a great time to ask questions and get a grasp on what’s real at the rodeo. After the tour, seated safely in the stands, I bet you’ll think about the courage and determination it takes for a contestant to go up against another athlete, one they know outweighs them and might even outsmart ‘em! A great way to experience the spirit of the wild, wild, West is touring behind the chutes and attending the Rooftop Rodeo!

Tours are available daily July 9-14 at 4:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. Tickets for the tour and rodeo are available for purchase online, see the Tickets page at If you have a group of 20 or more, please call 970-577-3920 to ask about special arrangements.
