Supporting Ward Nelson For Town Trustee
This letter is written in support of Ward Nelson, candidate for Estes Park trustee. I have served on the town council of Crested Butte for 23 years and acted as its mayor for three terms. As a result, I am well versed in the concerns and politics of small Colorado mountain towns. Seasonal tourism, a diverse economic base, re-development, and affordable housing are issues that Crested Butte and Estes Park share. And like Estes Park, Crested Butte strives to address these issues without sacrificing its mountain town uniqueness.
Over three decades, Ward and I have had many long discussions, strategizing ways to reach our towns’ financial and growth goals. Ward understands how municipal government works and how to move organizations forward. I have considered and often incorporated his ideas when seeking solutions for Crested Butte.
In addition to his strong knowledge base and problem solving experience, Ward has integrity and solid people skills. I recommend him to the Estes Park residents as someone who can well represent their views as the town looks for the best ways to achieve financial stability and meet the needs of residents.
On a personal level, I have known Ward since our college days at Cornell and played next to him for four years on our football team. (he was all-conference on both defense and offense.) He was our captain and a natural leader then and I am sure he would serve as a positive and effective leader of your wonderful city.
