& Pawnee National Grassland
Recent snowy conditions are allowing firefighters to burn many of the slash piles on the Canyon Lakes Ranger District created as part of multiple fuels reduction projects. Below is the list of areas planned for today, 1/27/09:
Estes Valley Slash Pile Burning
U.S. Forest Service crews plan to burn slash piles created as part of the Estes Valley Fuels Reduction Project near the Pinewood Springs and Allenspark subdivisions. This is the first time this winter firefighters have burned in this area.
Each day of the burn conditions are evaluated to determine if ignition will take place. Wind, fuel moisture, staffing, and snow cover all play a factor in where and whether ignition happens.
