Sisters On The Fly Host Vintage Camper Trailer Tour In Estes Park August 17

trailer-sistersThe public is invited to join Sisters on the Fly at Estes Park Campground at Mary’s Lake on Saturday, August 17 from 3 -5 p.m. for a tour of their (mostly) vintage camper trailers. Admittance is free but a suggested donation of $10 per person will be collected to benefit Casting for Recovery, a breast cancer support group using fly fishing to heal participants both mentally and physically.

Over seventy members of Sisters on the Fly will be attending the third annual Rocky Mountain Hi campout August 14-18 in Estes Park. Participants are coming from fourteen states from as far away as Arkansas and California with many from Colorado and Western states. There will be 62 trailers. Sisters on the Fly was founded in 1999 by two real-life sisters and has grown to almost 4,000 members in all 50 states and several foreign countries. There are about 300 members in the Rocky Mountain region. The organization has been featured in numerous national and local magazines as well as on television and radio. A book, Sisters on the Fly: Caravans, Campfires, and Tales from the Road, was written by Irene Rawlings and published in 2010.

Rawlings will be at the trailer tour signing copies of her new book Cast-Iron Cooking with Sisters on the Fly and copies will be available for purchase. Unless prohibited by fire bans, there will be demonstrations of Dutch oven cooking during the trailer tour.

“We love to show off our trailers and many are hand painted and decorated by Sisters and restored from the ground up. Most trailers are from the 1950s, ’60s, and ’70s and a few new ones as well and they are really fun to tour,” according to Julia McSherry, Sister #1508 and event organizer. “Our motto is ‘We have more fun than anyone’ and this event is a great example of fun. We encourage the public to join us for the trailer tour and support this important cause.”

trailer-sisters-2Sisters on the Fly has supported Casting for Recovery with thousands of dollars raised through auctions, special events, and trailer tours. Casting for Recovery is a non-profit organization founded on the principles that the natural world is a healing force and that cancer survivors deserve one weekend — free of charge and free of the stresses from medical treatment, home, or workplace — to experience something new and challenging while enjoying beautiful surroundings within an intimate, safe, and nurturing structure.

Estes Park Campground, operated by Larimer County Natural Resources, is located a mile south of Estes Park at 2120 Mary’s Lake Road at the intersection of Peak View Drive (from Hwy 7).
