Rooftop Rodeo Wins “2010 Best Small Rodeo” In The Nation!

With yet another honor to its credit, Estes Park’s Rooftop Rodeo has earned a place among the country’s rodeo elite. The Rooftop Rodeo has been named the “Best Small Rodeo” in the nation by the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) for the third consecutive year. This prestigious honor was presented to the Rooftop Rodeo Committee at the PRCA National Finals Rodeo (NFR) and Convention in Las Vegas last week. Estes Park also received the award in 2003, 2006, 2008 and 2009. In addition, the rodeo was among five finalists for that top honor in 2000, 2004, 2005 and 2007.

The PRCA award is the Rooftop Rodeo’s third win in professional rodeo this year. Last month the Rooftop Rodeo was selected as “Medium-size Rodeo of the Year” by the Mountain States Circuit and “Small Rodeo of the Year” by the Women’s Professional Rodeo Association.

“Our staff and the dedicated members of the Rooftop Rodeo Committee work tirelessly to create an event to make our community proud,” Fairgrounds and Events Manager Bo Winslow commented. “It’s an honor to be nationally recognized for this achievement.”

Rooftop Rodeo Committee President Howell Wright, Bo Winslow and eight members of the Rooftop Rodeo Committee attended the NFR awards banquet. Estes Park’s Kellsie Purdy, Miss Rodeo Colorado 2011, was also present for the week-long festivities representing her hometown and the Rooftop Rodeo.

During the convention, Winslow gave a presentation highlighting both the challenges and the rewards of putting on a PRCA rodeo to the attendees, including rodeo committee representatives, associate members and contract personnel from across the nation.

Estes Park’s Rooftop Rodeo is sponsored by the Town of Estes Park and coordinated by volunteers from across Northern Colorado. The event hosts some of the best cowboys and cowgirls in the world for events including bronc riding, steer wrestling, tie down roping, bare back riding, team roping, barrel racing and bull riding. Part of Estes Park’s rich history, the roots of the Rooftop Rodeo date back to 1908. For more information, please visit and To receive Town news in your e-mail inbox, please e-mail
