Rooftop Rodeo In Town Next Week!
Horses, cowboys, cowgirls, marching units, and more will be evident throughout Estes Park between July 8 and 13 as they gather for this community’s annual award winning Rooftop Rodeo.
The event’s official launch features a parade through the center of downtown on Tuesday, July 8. Bands, groups on horseback, floats, rodeo royalty and more will add a distinctly Western flavor to the town as the colorful entourage makes its way to the fairgrounds beginning at 10:30 a.m.
Sanctioned Professional Rodeo Cowboy Association (PRCA) performances occur nightly through Sunday, July 13. While the rodeo gets underway each night at 7:30 p.m. the midway opens at 5:30 p.m. and features inflatable fun for kids, face painting, balloon art, live Western music, an opportunity to record your own musical CD, shopping in the Vendor Mall, and a mechanical bull providing just the right touch for take-home photos.
Those wanting to know a bit more about rodeo operations are invited to “Behind the Chutes” tours that begin at 5:45 p.m. Participants meet the clowns, the announcers, get to view the livestock and learn about the specifically Western, traditional competition.
Evening rodeo performances begin at 6:45 p.m. with pre-show cowboy entertainment in the arena before the action starts. Rodeo competitions feature saddle bronc riding, steer wrestling, tie-down roping, team roping, bareback riding, barrel racing, mutton bustin’, and bull riding.
Estes Park’s event is highly recognized in the rodeo circuit, having won two “outstanding small rodeo of the year” awards along with another two nominations during the past five years. The awards are the outcome from votes cast by those participating in the event.
Western music artists Woody Procell and the Snowy River Band will entertain during the Saturday, July 12 Queen’s Dance at Lake Shore Lodge.
Behind the Chutes tours cost $10 for adults and $5 for children 3- to 11-years old. Ticket price also includes a gift. Queens Dance tickets are $12 and available at the door. Both rodeo general admission and box seat tickets are available each rodeo performance. General admission seats are not reserved and prices are $15 for adults and $5 for children ages three to 11. Box seats are $20.
