Ron Duell Candidate For EVRPD Board
Hello my name is Ron Duell and I am a candidate for the Estes Valley Recreation District board. I would like to tell you a little about myself, and tell you why I would like to be on the board. I was born in Greeley, and our family moved to Estes when I was about five years old. I have lived in the Estes Valley for 43 years. I went through the Estes Park school system from Kindergarten through grade 12. After graduation, I enlisted in the United States Air Force for four years, after I got out I moved back to Estes with my two young sons. At that time I was fortunate enough to get a job with the Estes Park Sanitation District in 1983 where I have been employed ever since, almost 29 years.
As my sons grew up, they played soccer, baseball, football, basketball, skied at Hidden Valley and were on the Otters Swim Team. I have been a Cub Scout leader, Webelos leader, Boy Scout leader, and a Scout Master for Troop 10. I was also the vice president for the Otters Swim Club. I have helped coach girls Gold Crown Basketball and girl seventh grade basketball. I am a member of the local gun club and I am currently on the Trails Committee. I am proud to say that I am now a grandfather of six grandchildren.
I love to play racquet ball, hike, snowshoe, camp, hunt, target practice and I am a very avid bicyclist. I really enjoy all the trails all around town and look forward to more trails being built in the future.
Professionally, I have almost 33 years experience as a heavy equipment operator. I have many years experience with water distribution lines, waste water collection lines, pumps, construction methods and materials. I also have many years of experience with maintenance and vehicle maintenance.
I would like to give back to the community that has given so much to me and my family over the years. I think if elected, I would bring a lot of wisdom, fairness and balance to the board, it will also give me a chance to give back a little of what I have enjoyed for so many years.
I think all the activities the district offers, from swim lessons, gun club, marina and so on are all great and I sure hope to see all of these programs continue going into the future.
