Estes Park resident Robert Slizeski died at his home on Wednesday, October 8, 2008. He was 82 years old. Robert Stanley Slizeski was born January 27, 1926 in Casper, WY. His parents were Stanley and Mabel (Nelson) Slizeski.
Bob’s distinguished 26 year military career began as he graduated with honors from the U.S. Military Academy West Point, NY in 1949. Commissioned in the Air Force as an officer and pilot, his assignments were wide ranging in location and specialties. They included tours at the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs as a Math Professor; a Spy Satellite Officer at NORAD; head of the Thai Border Security Guards in Bangkok, Thailand; Satellite Director at the Los Angeles Space Station; service in Vietnam as a cargo pilot and base commander. He also received a Masters of Science degree in Aeronautical Engineering from Cal Tech University. He finished his military career as a Professor of Aerospace Science and Commander of the AFROTC unit at the University of Wyoming (Colonel, USAF).
After receiving his teaching degree, he taught Math and Aerospace Science at Estes Park High School from 1977-1987. He was Director of Crossroads Ministry in Estes Park from 1987-1990 and was a volunteer in the Ambassadors and Friendship Force organizations. He was an active parishioner in Our Lady of the Mountains Catholic Church.
Bob married Rose JoAnne Pedersen in 1955 and is the father to five children: Bob Slizeski and wife Kim of Park City, UT; Kim Leli and husband Jim of Green Valley, CA; Kay Edwards and husband Justin of Estacada, OR; Carol Dimas and husband Steve of Dallas, TX; Richard Slizeski of Forest Hills, NY. He has 10 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Stanley and Mabel Slizeski of Casper, WY and his sister Marion Losh of Seattle, WA.
Bob loved to travel to all places, foreign and domestic and enjoyed the outdoors, hiking and fly fishing. He will be remembered for his great sense of humor, quick wit, kindness and compassion.
