Estes Park resident and former Estes Park Volunteer Fire Department Chief, Jack Rumley died at home on Saturday, October 26, 2013. He was 76 years old.
Jack T. Rumley was born February 10, 1937 to Marion and Leona (Hildenberg) Rumley in Ft Collins, Colorado. Jack graduated from Fort Collins High School. On June 8, 1958, he married Helen Yockey in Wellington, Colorado. The family lived in Ft Collins, Loveland, and in 1967, moved to Estes Park when Public Service Company brought natural gas to the Estes Park area. Jack retired after 37 years of service with Public Service Company.
He was a volunteer firefighter for The Estes Park Volunteer Fire Department for 25 years, and served as Chief for 17 years. He was a former trustee for the Town of Estes Park, a charter board member of Upper Thompson Sanitation District, and a past president of The Estes Park Optimist Club. He was a charter and current board member of the Estes Valley Fire Protection District.
Survivors include, his wife of 55 years, Helen, his children, Jack Jr., Tammy Elley, and husband, John, Sharon Ferris and husband, Michael, three grandchildren, Ashley (Dolly) Ferris, Whitney (Squeaks) Ferris, and Trent (Bear) Elley. three step grandchildren, Melissa, Justin and Shaun Elley, his mother-in-law Carol Yockey, two brothers, Albert and William, and wife Roberta, 11 nieces and nephews, and numerous cousins and grand nieces and nephews. Jack was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.
A public viewing was held on Wednesday, October 30, 2013 at Allnutt Funeral Home in Estes Park. A memorial service will be held on Friday, November 8, 2013 at 2 p.m. at the Dannels Fire Station in Estes Park.
