The 20 major sponsors of the 21st annual Estes Park Duck Race were presented with their own personalized rubber duck at a photo session on Riverside Plaza, Wednesday, April 22, 2009. The art class at Estes Park High School painted each of the ducks so they stand out when they float into Riverside Plaza on race day. The “sponsor ducks” will be the first ducks in the river on May 2nd. They float to town on a shorter course than the estimated 7,000 little ducks that will be dropped into Fall River at Nicky’s on race day.

“We could not do this race without the help and support of these major sponsors.” Said Chuck “Big Duck” Coffey, the chairman of this year’s race. “Every year the business community in this town steps up to the plate and hits a home run by being major sponsors, offering prizes, and adopting ducks. We are truly blessed.”

The major sponsors in this year’s race are The Bank of Colorado, Boulder Valley Credit Union, Caring Hands, Inc.Cheley Colorado Camps, Dallman Construction, Estes Park Pet Supply, Holiday Inn, Insurance Associates, Mary’s Lake Lodge, Mountain Home Restaurant, Mountaintop Physical Therapy, Partners Mentoring Youth, Peak-To-Peak American Grill, Stanley Hotel, St. Malo Catholic Retreat and Conference Center, UPS Store, US Bank, Western 1-Hour Photo, Westover Construction and the YMCA. The media sponsors for the race are Estes Park Live! – KEPL 1470 AM Radio, the Estes Park News, EPTV Channel 8, Reel Mountain Theater and the Estes Park Trail Gazette.

Coffey said duck adoption forms are still being sold all over town by the 66 participating charities and organizations that benefit from the duck race.

“You can adopt a duck for $20 and, if things go like they have in years past, you will have a one in ten chance of winning a prize” explained Coffey. There are six major prizes this year. A Sony 52 “ LCD TV, Samsung 40” LCD TV, HP 17” Laptop w/selected software, Panasonic Home Theater Kit, Garmin GPS System and a Nikon CoolPix P80 Digital Camera.

“Get a duck in the race and thank our major sponsors when you visit their businesses,” urged Coffey. “Without them, the race would not be possible.”
