Rails In The Rockies February 18 & 19

Don’t miss the 15th anniversary of Rails in the Rockies, sponsored by the Estes Valley Division National Model Railroad Association. This great event takes place on Saturday, February 18 from 9-5 and Sunday, February 19 from 9-4.

Admission is only $5 for adults and children under 12 are admitted free with adult. The train show takes place in the Convention Center at the Rocky Mountain Park Inn.

For fifteen years, The Estes Valley Division, a local chapter of the National Model Railroad Association, has been presenting this very special train show, Rails in the Rockies.

The show contains over 16,000 square feet of model railroad layouts and related displays and exhibits of interest to spectators of all ages. In addition, there are many hobby items, from books, magazines, CDs, DVDs, trains, wall hangings, photographs, clothing and tools for making your layout just perfect!

The Estes Valley Division National Model Railroad Association is a non-profit organization interested in promoting model railroading as a hobby. As a non-profit organization, they have donated funds and railroad-related items to the Estes Valley Library and the Quota Club Ambulance initiative among others. As an organization, they are active with Partners in Mentoring Youth, Youth in Model Railroading, World’s Greatest Hobby, and The Honor Society of Estes Park High School.

The group has an amazing number of private layouts amongst their members, including one of the largest HO scale Moffat Road layouts in the country, a Garden layout, an O-scale layout and several others. In addition, they have members who are interested in other aspects of railroading … scenery, layout-building details, etc. All of their members are always willing to have visitors!

Just some of the fun you’ll find at Rails in the Rockies 2012:

Seek and Search-As families register, children are given a map to follow and find special items. At the end, they are awarded a prize.

Train Give-Aways-donated by Lionel: a Santa Fe Flyer and a Polar Express. All children between the ages of three and 16 can register for drawings for these two trains. The drawings will be held on Sunday afternoon, and though it is not necessary to be present, we’d love it if you were here to accept your prize!

Modeling Classes (featuring a “sit-down” area, to cover scenery, weathering buildings, etc.) Club members will be available throughout the show, doing demonstrations and answering questions. Of course, with the number of vendors that will be on the premises, it is likely that you will be able to find whatever you need to complete your layout!

15th Anniversary T-Shirts, Buttons, Patches and Pins-In honor of our 15th Anniversary, we have a special logo! All the above-mentioned items will be available, but get them as early as possible, they are likely to go fast!

Wyoming Lego Group-entire layout made of Legos-trains, tracks, buildings, people, scenery. One of our most popular layouts last year! An amazing sight, and this year we have moved it to a more central location.

Special Children’s Layout-featuring Thomas the Tank-a permanent donation. The children’s layout has also been moved to a larger, more central location. Here, children can actually “work” on a layout, there are plenty of knowledgeable adults around to help, as well!
