Happy Letter To The Editor:
The high level of community support and encouragement given to our children are always appreciated. I am thankful for the opportunity to interact with the Estes Park Elementary children, and other Estes Park residents on Friday October 26th.
The Rotary Club of Estes Park has supported distribution of pumpkins to each elementary school student on the Friday before Halloween; carrying on a tradition which began in Estes Park 76 years ago. The pumpkins were graciously donated by the Safeway Foundation.
Bill Van Horn and his sister, Kimber supervised the loading of six large crates of pumpkins at 7:30 a.m. Upon arrival at the school, each student was presented with a pumpkin, and extras were left for kids that were not present. Wayne Andersen, Gary and Kris Hazelton assisted in the unloading and distribution to the students. The kids were very vocal in expressing their appreciation for their personal pumpkins.
With pumpkins to spare, we caravanned to the Prospect Living Center, Senior Center, Mountain Top Preschool, LLEV Christian Preschool, Crossroads and then to Good Samaritan, where the final pumpkins found a home.
This was truly a great experience in supporting our community – from the very young to the young in heart. Again, a big thank you to the volunteers, Rotary and the Safeway Foundation.
