Please Support The Wellness Center
To the Editor,
As citizens of Estes Park, we can’t close the door to all new development, otherwise our Town will decay. Not all new development is bad.
The sale of lot 4 and the creation of the EPMC/Anschutz Wellness center as proposed is good development and will help Estes Park move forward in a positive way. It’s a good idea to sell lot 4. It will help our Town. After voter approval of the sale of lot 4, the Town will be paid $1.35 million. Money the Town can and will use to help improve and fix our flood damaged infrastructure.
If we don’t sell it, then we are forcing the Town to buy it for $1.35 million. This is a waste of money. Selling lot 4 to initiate a very positive new development in our Town, the EPMC/ Anschutz Wellness center, is the right thing to do. Our Town needs a positive new development. Soon after the sale of lot 4, a $15M construction project to build the new EPMC/Anschutz Wellness center will start.
This project will create many good construction jobs in our Town. Jobs that we need. The project as proposed will still conserve open space for Estes Park by designating 40% of the entire property as permanent open space. That’s a large amount of open space being dedicated from a commercial property.
After it is built, the operation of the center is estimated to bring about 60 new, good paying (median pay of $52K), year-round jobs to Estes Park. That’s a lot of good jobs. The center will also bring a much wider variety of medical perspectives and service availability to Estes Park through the collaboration of doctors between the EPMC and the Anschutz Medical Center.
Another huge benefit is that the operation of the Wellness center by the EPMC will provide a new and stable stream of funding of over $1.5 million per year for the EPMC. This significant new funding will be used to keep our local hospital strong. A strong local hospital is good for Estes Park.
The EPMC/Anschutz Wellness center is a very good project for Estes Park. This project has too many positive benefits to be turned away. Please support this project and support Estes Park. Vote yes to sell lot 4 and you will be helping to build a stronger and more diverse future for Estes Park.
