Please Put Noxious Weeds In Paper Bags, Not Plastic
To The Editor:
The Town of Estes Park has made a facility available to all residents of the Estes Valley to drop off paper bags filled with noxious weeds on Elm Rd. When I dropped off my paper bag last Friday, I was really upset to see so many plastic bags filled with “stuff’ placed right in front of the sign that said “paper bags only.” We are so fortunate to have a place to dispose of our paper bags filled with noxious weeds at no cost. Why do some people have to drop off their plastic bags with whatever is in those bags, right in front of the sign? Don’t they understand that plastic can’t be burned? Don’t they know that burning plastic gives off toxic chemicals that harm our environment? Are they the same people who don’t pick up after their dogs because they think their dog’s waste isn’t poisonous to wildlife?
The reason we are able to drop off our paper bags of noxious weeds is that they can be used to start the fire in the air curtain burner. Plastic bags can’t be used to start the air curtain burner. The town can’t pay someone to stand out there to police us and make sure we only use paper bags. Come on people, follow the rules. Don’t spoil an opportunity for the rest of us!
Why can’t residents of the Estes Valley be grateful for the opportunity to dispose of noxious weeds and follow the rules?
I’m concerned that if we don’t follow the rules, we won’t be able get rid of our noxious weeds at no cost and rightfully so.
All it takes is for a few people who don’t follow the rules to take this free weed drop away. The noxious weed drop off is open every Friday from 8:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. through the month of September, at the town dump on Elm Road.
