Museum Board Friends And Foundation Support Tax Increase
To The Editor:
The Board of the Estes Park Museum Friends & Foundation, Inc. supports the 1% sales tax increase to be voted on in the April 1 election. Funds from the proposed sales tax increase could provide seed money to pursue grants to improve, and possibly expand, Museum facilities.
Through public input collected by the 2011 Citizen Survey and 2013 Senior Center/Museum Master Plan, the residents of the Estes valley have expressed their desire for additional services from the Museum and the Senior Center. Revenue from the proposed sales tax increase will make this possible. However, if the sales tax increase is defeated, both agencies’ budgets will likely face cutbacks to pay for road maintenance and other necessities.
Museum attendance by visitors and locals has grown substantially over the past 10 years, and the Museum building is stretched to capacity. Approximately 25% of the proposed tax increase would support the new Community Recreation Center, the Senior Center, and the Museum, allowing for increased services.
The Museum Friends urges voters to vote “Yes” on the proposed ten-year 1% increase in the sales tax.
