Merry Kay Dunbar, 46, of Longmont, Colorado, passed from this life Friday, April 18, 2008.
Those remaining to honor her memory include her husband, Steve Dunbar of Longmont; daughter, Mamie Dunbar-Shuptrine and her husband, Charles, of Castle Rock, Colorado; her parents, Robert A. and Margaret (Baker) DeWitt of Longmont; two brothers, David DeWitt and his wife, Cynthia, of Longmont, and Jeffrey DeWitt and his wife, Rebecca, of Black Forest, Colorado; and two sisters, Jeanette Field and her husband, Jerry, of Castle Rock, and Renee Dunbar and her husband, William R. Dunbar, Jr., of Plainview, Minnesota.
Merry was born August 25, 1961 in Minden, Illinois. As a young girl she moved with her family to Colorado, living in Longmont, Lyons and Estes Park where she graduated from Park High School in 1979. She married Steven M. Dunbar on October 11, 1980, in Estes Park. She had worked for many years as a medical transcriptionist.
Merry was an amazing person with many talents and interests. Her love of horses and her caring nature inspired Merry to work with people with disabilities through therapeutic horseback riding. She enjoyed road trips and camping, documenting her travels through her love of photography along the way. Mrs. Dunbar was especially fond of the many reunions, holidays and other family gatherings spent at the family cabin near Estes Park.
As a lifelong learner and avid reader, Merry’s research including Native American history, early American history, and Amish culture. She was a talented artisan, creating beautiful jewelry using semi-precious stones, silver and beadwork.
A celebration of Merry’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, April 25, 2008 at the Church of Christ of Longmont, 1351 Collyer St., Longmont. Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Howe Mortuary and Cremation Services, Longmont.
