Marian Grace Stringfellow Heyser

Marian Grace Stringfellow Heyser passed away peacefully New Year’s Day in Estes Park, Colorado, in the company of her children and the devoted and loving staff of the Prospect Park Living Center, where she resided for the last one and a half years.

Marian was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on April 16, 1922, to Junius Royal Stringfellow and Gertrude Mary Birnie. She grew up in Salt Lake – the youngest of five children. At the age of twenty-five, she ventured to Colorado Springs, Colorado, where she lived the majority of her life.

During her lifetime, Marian demonstrated a passion for the arts, both as a writer of creative works and as an accomplished artist. The pinnacle of her career occurred when she was awarded the prestigious Boettcher and Company Artist of the Year recognition in 1984.

Growing up in the Depression shaped her strong sense of patriotism. She loved the outdoors and was an avid gardener and tennis player. She was a long-time member of the First Presbyterian Church in Colorado Springs.

Marian was married for many years to Henry Ernst Heyser, Jr. of Evanston, IL and is survived by children Leslie Jones (Irvin) of South Salt Lake City, UT; Kristin Roberts of Colorado Springs, CO; Lisa Mechem (David) of Drake, CO; Henry Ernst Heyser III (Laura) of Houston, TX; eleven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers George, Royal and Robert and her sister Gertrude.

Marian believed strongly in God. “I hope that’s evident in my work, because that’s where it all begins and ends – with God. If there’s anything I hope my paintings do it’s to remind people this is still a bright, beautiful world.”

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, January 7th 2013, at the Community Church of the Rockies, 1700 Brodie Avenue, Estes Park, CO. A private interment will take place at Evergreen cemetery in Colorado Springs, CO.

In lieu of flowers, Marian’s family appreciates donations to The Prospect Park Living Center in care of Allnutt Funeral Service, 1302 Graves Ave. Estes Park, CO 80517.
