Legett Christian Center Blows Over In Christmas Day Wind Burst At YMCA Of The Rockies
A bizarre wind burst on Christmas afternoon knocked over trusses and damaged framing on the 2nd floor of the Legett Christian Center, which was under construction at YMCA of the Rockies in Estes Park. Around 2 p.m., the second floor of the structure was virtually torn down by a wind burst that was clocked at more than 50 miles per hour. There were no injuries.
“If damage like this had to happen, I’m thankful it happened on a day when no one was working,” said Kent Meyer, president and CEO of the YMCA of the Rockies. “But this certainly wasn’t on my wish list.”
YMCA of the Rockies and its insurance company are currently assessing the damage. The architect and construction engineers will closely supervise the tear-down and rebuilding of the Legett Christian Center.
