Just Three Weeks Left To See Southern Comforts & Love Letters At The Baldpate Inn

By: Barb Boyer Buck

There are only three weeks left to see the Baldpate Inn/Fine Arts Guild of the Rockies show this summer – “Love Letters” and “Southern Comforts.” Both plays are directed by Barb Boyer Buck and will be performed at Baldpate’s outdoor theater venue – the Key Thedral Theater.

Southern Comforts tells the boy-meets-girl story of a couple in their 70s who have already lived an entire life before they meet, fall in love, and get married. This hilarious and romantic play depicts the ups and downs of life with Gus Klingman – a man still living in the same New Jersey house he was born in – and Amanda Cross – an independent, free spirit from Tennessee.

For Southern Comforts, Rich Mitchell and Nancy Thomas will perform on July 27 and August 4; Kathy Littlejohn and Michael Dzik will perform on August 11.

In Love Letters, Kathy Littlejohn and Michael Dzik will perform July 28; Lonnie and Chris Erskine will perform July 29 and August 3; and, Dyarl and Sandy Alexander will perform on August 11. This Pulitzer-Prize nominated play by A.R. Gurney is the poignant and funny story of Mellissa Gardner and Andy Ladd – two people who write letters to each other over the span of more than 50 years. Both are from the same upper-class background but experience their privileges and upbringing in very different ways.

Love Letters is a wonderful play, performed through letters read by each actor. There is adult language and content and not recommended for children under 14.

The Key-Thedral Theater is in a beautiful spot nestled at the foot of Twin Sisters, just across the highway from Lily Lake and across the dirt driveway from the Baldpate Inn. There will be a cash bar at the theater during the performances and umbrellas if it starts to rain during the performances! Contact the Baldpate for dine & play packages – this historic property is famous for its delicious homemade soups, salad bar, and delectable baked goods.

Tickets are $15 and $10 for Fine Arts Guild of the Rockies members and are only available at the Baldpate Inn by calling 970-586-5397, emailing or stopping by the fabulous property at 4900 South Hwy. 7 just south of Estes Park (about a 12-minute drive). There are discounts for groups of 14 or more.
