Joan (Hutchens) Thomas
She married Donald Hutchens on June 7, 1947 in Hinsdale, Illinois. They lived in St. Joseph, Missouri; Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and moved to Estes Park in 1956. Joan was a stay-at-home mom and her 5 children kept her very busy. Many will remember her as a Girl Scout leader. They divorced in 1979 after more than 30 years of marriage.
Joan worked the entrance station at Rocky Mountain National Park during the summers, where she learned to say “Hello” and “Thank You” in many different languages so she could greet the tourists in their native language. Later she moved to Lakewood to work for the Government.
Joan married Morgan Thomas in 1982. They only had two years together, as he passed away in 1984.
Even though she had Parkinsons she enjoyed the Silver Sneakers exercise class in Lakewood and made many friends there.
Joan enjoyed family, reading, sewing, hiking, camping, snow-shoeing, and traveling the world.
Joan is survived by her five children; daughters Becky Hutchens of Longmont, Freddi (Michael) Watt of Colorado Springs, Marilyn (Shy) Munger of Colorado Springs, Janet Pipp of Lakewood; son John (Michelle) Hutchens of Phoenix; three brothers, Bud, Roger, Ricky; ten grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
