Increase In Military Spending Vote Passed
To The Editor:
With all the hoopla over the government bailout of this and that company/corporation/industry, you may have missed a “small item” that was passed in the Senate last week by an 88 to 8 vote.
What is that “small item” that you missed?
“Senators approved $612.5 billion in military spending for 2009, including $70 billion to fund the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan for part of the fiscal year.” (from the Denver Post, 09/21/08)
This is $612.5 billion to be spent to protect us?
Please remember the words of General Dwight David Eisenhower: “Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired, signifies in the final sense a theft from those who are hungry and are not fed, those who are cold and not clothed.”
