Hwy 7 Rock Work
Today, Monday, April 20, the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) will conduct rock fall mitigation work on State Highway 7 at milepost 26 near Lyons. This is the site of a rockfall that occurred last night around 6:30 p.m. when two large rocks approximately 8X8X6 came down onto SH 7. No vehicles were involved and there were no injuries. Crews had to completely close the highway for approximately three hours to break up the rocks and remove them from the site. For safety reasons, CDOT is returning to the site today to knock down any loose rocks to help prevent future rock falls at this location.
To complete the work, there will be intermittent full closures of SH 7 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. today and motorists can expect up to 30 minute delays and alternate routes are strongly advised. In addition, work may continue tomorrow from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
