Estes Park resident Herta Koogler died at Prospect Park Living Center on Friday, January 10, 2014. She was 81 years old. Herta Heidester was born May 9, 1932 in Germany. After surviving the bombings in Munich as a child, she came to the United States on the Queen Elizabeth in 1952 and settled in Sun Prairie, WI. Missing the scenic Alps, she moved to Boulder,CO, then to Yachats, OR where she met her soul mate Ken Koogler.
The couple owned and operated a wood shop for several years before returning to Colorado in 1990 when they moved to the Dunraven Heights neighborhood in Estes Park . Eventually Herta moved closer to downtown Estes Park due to health concerns. She was an avid camper, cross country skier and traveler and had hiked many of Colorado’s 14er’s. She had a passion for quilting, was a member of the Community Prayer Quilters of Estes Park, having completed over 100 quilts.
She will be missed by her family and the many friends she has made over the years. Herta is survived by her son Bernie Pechacek, daughter Margo Mosher, step children Ron Koogler and Vicki bailey, grandchildren Ron, Mike and Chris Mosher and Chris Pechacek, Hillary, Emily and Ashley Bailey and Jennifer and Casey Koogler and 10 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her two husbands Siegfried Pechacek and Ken Koogler. A memorial gathering celebrated Herta’s life on Tuesday, January 14, 2014 at Allnutt Funeral Chapel in Estes Park.
