Help Us To Give Thanks!
We all know about the flare up of the Fern Lake Fire and the subsequent evacuation and pre-evacuation of hundreds of residents of Estes Park this past weekend. What warms our heart once again is the response of citizens and businesses who step up and come together at a time of crisis to help out those in need as well as give thanks.
The Estes Park News wants to take time to recognize these individuals and businesses for the wonderful things they have done.
We have started a list but we knew we wouldn’t have time to get everyone in to give proper recognition. Please send us your thanks, just a sentence or two, of who you are thankful for and what they did for you or others. We’ll publish a big list next week.
Those are just some of who we know now:
The firefighters from all over the state and the country!
All law enforcement officials and dispatch center
RMNP staff and volunteers
Many lodging properties stepped up to offer housing for the firefighters and evacuated residents, many of them for free! (send names!)
A big thank you to the restaurant owners who pulled together and donated meals/food. Poppy’s and Mamas Rose’s offered a free community dinner for anyone Tuesday evening as well as meals for volunteers on the information phone line. Also, Claire’s, Ciscos, Village Pizza, Wapiti’s Pub, The Other Side Restaurant, Smokin’ Dave’s BBQ, The Egg & I, Sweet Basilico, Mountain Home Café. Subway and Picnic in the Park donated lots of food and many meals to firefighters and evacuees at the Red Cross Shelter.
Rocky Mountain Resorts delivered lots of AA batteries to the EVFPD.
Cheley Camps donated many, many AA batteries!
Good Samaritan Society helped out some evacuees with a place to stay.
Estes Park News donated batteries and water.
Safeway donated lots of water.
Airbits Internet set up the Rocky Mountain Park Inn so Incident Command would have the best internet service they could possibly get.
Estes Park Pet Lodge and The Animal House boarded displaced pets for free.
Many customers at Kind Coffee purchased gift cards to pay for firefighters who come in to have coffee and snacks.
Stan and Linda Guzzy of Catering for All Occasions came in to the Senior Center to help make coffee at 5:30 a.m. Saturday and they, along with Lori Mitchell hauled over 400 cups of coffee in big thermoses to the Red Cross Evacuation Center at EPHS. They also donated a lot of apple juice.
Peggy and John Lynch offered their entire home to evacuees (kids, pets, didn’t matter) and were placed third on the list but never received a call for their offer because everyone had a place to go.
Others that need thanks are:
Aspen Winds on Fall River
The grounds guys at the Y.
Steve and Gerry Pearson
