Helen Silberberg (nee Wehrmann) died in Estes Park, Colorado on January 28, 2012 with her family by her side.
Helen was born on July 24, 1923 in Cologne, Germany. She, her brother Bernard, and her parents Herman and Irene emigrated to New York City in 1933 to escape Nazi Germany. They chose to reside in the German-Jewish enclave Washington Heights, N.Y.
Helen met her husband Murray at an Audubon Society dance. They were married for 58 years prior to Murray’s passing in 2004. In their leisure time, Helen and Murray enjoyed the art and culture that New York City had to offer. They also loved to socialize with their many friends at their favorite local diner, The Blue Bay.
Helen was devoted to her daughters Cheryl Grossman and Rhonda Silberberg and to their husbands Fred Grossman and Ken O’Sullivan. She adored her grandchildren Erica and Ian Grossman and Erica’s husband Dennis Kurtz. Helen loved to laugh and enjoyed her own “operatic” voice. Her humor radiated throughout the family. She was the best audience for family antics and encouraged shenanigans from all.
We love our mother and grandmother and she will be in our hearts always.
Helen was laid to rest next to her loving husband and parents at Beth El Cemetery in Paramus, New Jersey.
