Hazard Tree Mitigation Work Continues At RMNP

As part of ongoing fuels mitigation work, hazard trees will be removed on the park boundary near Grand Lake on the west side and in the East Portal Trail area on the east side. Removing these fuels will help decrease the chance of high intensity fires inside the treatment area and nearby private property. Accumulated forest fuels within the park boundary, including beetle-killed trees and dead and down material, will be cut and placed in large piles. This will take place during the summer and fall. The piles will be burned over the course of the next two winters when snow cover, weather and smoke dispersion are favorable.
