Glen Haven Volunteer Fire Department Pancake Breakfast Saturday, July 20
The Glen Haven Area Volunteer Fire Department (GHAVFD) and Auxiliary will host its annual Pancake Breakfast Saturday, July 20th from 7:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the Glen Haven Firehouse. Enjoy delicious pancakes, scrambled eggs, sausage, juice, and coffee, all prepared by the firefighters themselves, for $6 for adults and $4 for children ages 5 to 11. Children under 5 eat free. In addition to the all-you-can-eat breakfast, the event will feature a raffle, silent auction, and scrumptious baked goods.
The GHAVFD is very hopeful that this will be the last Pancake Breakfast to be held in the old fire station, which is a small garage. Crew members must actually move the vehicles out in order to have the space to put on their gear when responding to an emergency. Nevertheless, the GHAVFD volunteers are first-rate. They and their equipment have been vital in recent area fires. GHAVFD firefighters worked tirelessly to keep the Fern Lake Fire from jumping the Fern Lake Road last December. Emily Franklin, a GHAVFD volunteer, was the first firefighter on scene at the tragic Woodland Heights Fire. During the Park Mall fire the GHAVFD tanker provided the critical service of pumping water from the river, dramatically increasing the available resources.
The Pancake Breakfast is a major source of income for the department. The community of Glen Haven is not a municipality, and therefore not in a taxing district. Donations and grants are the sole source of funding for the Department. Finding the money to equip 18 volunteers with the proper gear, and buy and maintain enough modern vehicles to be ready for any situation, is a challenge for such a small community. GHAVFD is a 501 (C) (3) non-profit Colorado corporation. All contributions are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law.
This event would not be possible without the generous donations from the Estes Park business community. Major sponsors this year include Ace Hardware, The Big Horn Restaurant, The Egg & I, and Starbucks Coffee. Many other local businesses are providing items and services for the silent auction and raffle.
The catastrophic Colorado fires and heartbreaking loss of life in Yarnell, Arizona have heightened our awareness of the dedication and courage of volunteer firefighters, and of the important role they play in our lives. So “come on down” to Glen Haven on Saturday, July 20th for a fun morning and delicious breakfast. In the process you will be contributing to a good cause and will have the opportunity to thank a firefighter.
