Gilbert E. Johnson
Gilbert E. Johnson Jr. passed away on Tuesday, April 23, 2013 at TRU Community Care Center in Louisville, Colorado. He was born on July 29, 1930 in Chicago, Illinois to Gilbert E. Johnson Sr. and Marguerite Johnson.
He was raised in Chicago Illinois and graduated from Calumet High School. He joined the Illinois National Guard and served his country in Europe during the early 1950s. He met Arlene Muriel Linn, the sweetheart of his entire life, and married her on August 18, 1951. They were happily married for 62 years.
Gilbert began his career in Chicago as a sprinkler fitter apprentice. He became a master at his trade and was a member of Local Union 669.
Gilbert enjoyed model trains, garden railroads, and camping, but his true passion was his family.
In 1978 Gilbert moved to Pinewood Springs, Colorado, built his mountain home and lived there until his death.
Gilbert was a Christian and he and his wife were active members of Mountain View Bible Fellowship in Estes Park, Colorado.
Gilbert is survived by his wife Arlene, his five children and their spouses, Linn and David Van Loo, Betty and Mark Stewart, Gilbert III and Pamela Johnson, Randall and Shelley Johnson, and Darrin and Amy Johnson.
He is survived by fourteen grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.
He is also survived by his sister Adrienne McLaughlin of Palm Springs, California.
A private burial will be held on Friday, April 26, 2013.
A public memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 27, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at Mountain View Bible Fellowship in Estes Park, Colorado.
