The Stanley Museum Steam Team just received the long awaited hand made wooden wheels to replace two that Frank Hix lost on a steam car last summer. The wheels were taken to Mike Johnson of Past Times Inc. here in Estes for painting. Next they journey to Doug Klink’s fire truck museum for pin-striping. Finally they will go on Frank’s car, ready to drive. Frank is anxious to get the car operational again. He says he will start teaching more steam classes once the car is road worthy again. Of course he also looks forward to the big steam car tour taking place in Estes this June 13-20th.

Cars will be shipped in from all over the world for a week long event of touring in the Rocky Mountains. The tour commemorates the 100th anniversary of the Stanley Hotel, as well as the 100th birthday of the Stanley Museum’s beloved R car.

The Stanley Museum is open daily Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. and by special appointment. The Steam Team meets most Wednesdays at 10 a.m. The museum is located in Lower Stanley Village just behind the Chocolate Factory. To volunteer at the museum, or for work at the steam tour event, visit the Stanley Museum, or call 577-1903.
