George W. Cahill
George W. Cahill of Abilene, Texas, died in Big Spring, Texas, on March 22, 2013, with his family at his bedside. George was born to Edward and Lillian Cahill on June 18, 1928, in Akron, Ohio. George had a difficult childhood, but was determined to succeed. He lost both of his parents while he was a young child and George and his three brothers and one sister were then split up amongst different foster families. George proudly served in the U.S. Navy and U.S. Air Force. He retired after 26 years of service as a highly-decorated Master Sergeant and served in WWII, Korea, and Vietnam. George managed to reconnect with his siblings and he adored spending time with his family and pets. George also enjoyed dancing and remodeling homes.He had a wonderful sense of humor and was a lifelong Mason. George loved working on cars and was even offered a job by Indy 500 driver Roger McCluskey!
George is preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, John, Edward, and Paul. George is survived by his sons, Gary (wife Fiona) and Michael; his daughters Teresa (husband Dan), Wendy (husband Jeff), Marcella (husband Mark), and Beverly (husband Kevin); his grandchildren Grant (wife Gena), Katrina (husband Craig), Darci, Dexter, Tanner, Nicholas, Chloe, Ainsley, Nicholas, and great-grandchild Isla. George is also survived by his first wife, Barbara, and second wife, Kim. In his final years, his longtime companion was Fern. He is also survived by his sister, Marcella (husband Jim), and many loving nieces and nephews.
George was a hard worker who always liked to keep himself busy. As his health declined, he was determined to be independent and was not admitted to the VA nursing home until February of this year. George will be dearly missed by his friends and family, but at least he is at peace now. As George would say, “Keep smiling!”
