George Voeks


Estes Park resident Rev. George Voeks died at Prospect Park Living Center on Friday, September 25, 2009. He was 90 years old. George H. Voeks was born August 26, 1919 in McIntosh, MN. His parents were Herman and Hedwig (Hinderman) Voeks.

George attended Augsburg College and the University of Minnesota receiving a Bachelor’s degree in Theology. He attended Luther Seminary in St. Paul, MN. George married Mildred Blizek on August 14, 1948 in Maquoketa, IA. He and his wife Mildred, formerly resided in St. Paul, MN before moving to Estes Park, CO in May, 1989.

George served as pastor at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Morris, IL for 5 years and at East Immanuel Lutheran Church in St. Paul, MN for 26 years. He served the interdenominational Estes Park Church of Joy from 1992-1998. The last 11 years of his life he was a faithful member of the Estes Wesleyan Church. He enjoyed hiking, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing and helping his wife fish. He enjoyed meeting others, spending time with his family and enjoyed most of all sharing the love of Jesus. On any given day if asked, “How are your Pastor V?”, his response would be “I’m living in the Victory!” He was also very thankful for the loving staff at Good Samaritan assisted living where he resided the last four years of his life.

George is survived his a son, Randall Voeks of Minneapolis, MN; daughters Stephanie Rauk and husband Daniel of Estes Park, CO and Jennifer Sorbo of Hopkins, MN; seven grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren; a cousin, Lloyd Hinderman of Fairfax, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Mildred, one brother and four sisters.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, October 9, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at East Immanuel Lutheran Church in St. Paul, MN. Visitation will be on Thursday, October 8, 2009 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at Bradshaw Funeral Home, 1174 Payne Ave., St. Paul, MN. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Harvest House or Estes Wesleyan Church in Estes Park, CO or East Immanuel Lutheran Church in St. Paul, MN in care of Allnutt Funeral Service, 1302 Graves Avenue, Estes Park, CO 80517.
