Gene was born to the late Norman and Mildred Dykes on August 9, 1949 in Rocky Ford, CO, where he spent his youth making lifetime friends and crafting his American dream that shaped his character and life. After his graduation from Rocky Ford High School in 1967, he obtained his Bachelor of Arts in 1971 from Adams State College and soon he found himself a happy father of two boys in Estes Park, working as a banker and loved by nearly everyone in town. From there he continued chasing his dream and began many business ventures and eventually found himself in the great state of Texas as the owner of a successful mortgage company, and all the while endearing himself to many in the Woodlands and Conroe area. In later years, he connected his dream with that of helping a variety of charities achieve theirs, and in so doing, he touched even more lives.
In pursuit of his dream, he never stopped loving and caring for those around him, and thus leaves behind a legacy of love and friendship that serve as example to those that today celebrate him as a poet, a story teller, a guardsman, a sports fan, a businessman, a meloneer, a Texan, an American, and especially as a son, a father, a grandfather and a friend.
Gene is survived by his son Daniel and daughter-in-law Brandy and his cherished granddaughters Guinevere, Giselle and Genevieve, his sister Wanda and many dear family members and great friends from Colorado and Texas as well as all those he met along the way.
