Estes Park’s second annual Fit Family Five Mile race will be held Saturday, May 16th at Stanley Park. This event will begin at 9 a.m. and includes a five-mile run as well as fun fitness activities for children of all ages. Registration can be done online at www.fitfamily5mile.org or through the mail. Registration forms can be found at various locations around town including the preschool at the Community Church.

This year we are encouraging team participation. Teams will consist of five members and there will be a traveling trophy presented to the winning team. Team members will also be eligible for individual awards as well. When you register as a team you will receive a discount price.

At the conclusion of the awards ceremony there will be a raffle for all who finished the race. One of the most exciting prizes this year is week’s vacation for two in Mexico!

The five mile course offers not only beautiful scenery including grand views of Longs Peak, but will also provide great altitude training for runners competing in other races this summer season. There will be plenty of activities for children, everything from an obstacle course to a Sprout Sprint. This unique event will promote a healthy level of fitness for the whole family.

In keeping with our healthy theme we have made our event “zero waste” meaning there will not be massive amounts of trash and the trash we will have will be biodegradable. So not only are we keeping our families healthy, we are keeping our environment healthy too.

The Fit Family Five Mile is being hosted by Families for Estes and Lifelong Learning of Estes Valley. The proceeds from the race will be equally split between the two organizations. These two groups are committed to bettering the lives of the Estes Park community and their families. Last year the proceeds from the race were used by LLEV to offer more tuition assistance to qualifying families, buy new computers and physical education equipment. FFE used the money to invest in new playground equipment at Stanley Park and the Marina. The new equipment should be installed and ready for use this summer season.
