Fishing Derby This Weekend, June 4th & 5th


The Fishing Derby will be held this Saturday, June 4, at Lake Estes.

The Estes Valley Recreation and Park District (EVRPD), in conjunction with the Colorado Division of Wildlife, sponsors this annual Fishing Derby to benefit EVRPD youth programs. June 4 & 5, 2011, are “free fishing” days in the State of Colorado. Colorado State fishing licenses are not required on these two days.

The Fishing Derby is open to all ages.

The Fishing Derby runs from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 Noon. Registration begins at 6:30 a.m. at the Lake Estes Marina Store, 1770 Big Thompson Avenue (on Hwy. 34). Pre-registration fee is $3.00. Registration fee is $4.00 on the day of the Fishing Derby.

The $5.00 day-use fee for vehicles at Lake Estes is waived on Derby Day.

Prizes, many of which are donated by local merchants, are given to a male & female in each of these age groups for “Largest Fish”: 9 & under; 10-15; 16-59; and 60 & over.
