Fatality on West Side of Rocky Mountain National Park


At 3:10 p.m. Saturday, February 18, Grand County Sheriff’s Department was notified by cell phone of a 64-year-old man who had collapsed, was unconscious and not breathing one-third mile from the Green Mountain Trailhead in Rocky Mountain National Park. Park rangers, Grand Lake Volunteer Fire Department and Grand County EMS responded. A park ranger and additional rescue personnel reached the man at 3:28 p.m. They began advanced medical care but the man remained unresponsive and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Green Mountain Trailhead is located on the west side of Rocky Mountain National Park. The man was snowshoeing with a family member. The man’s name and hometown will be released by the Grand County Coroner’s office once next of kin have been notified.
