Fairgrounds At Stanley Park Enacts Precautionary Closure To Animals-No Events Affected
As a precautionary measure, the Town of Estes Park has elected to immediately close the Fairgrounds at Stanley Park to all animals and livestock through June 1, 2011. This closure to animals is a proactive precaution related to the Equine Herpes Virus EHV-1 outbreak that has affected horses in Colorado and across the western United States. No events will be affected, but animals will not be allowed on the property during this time frame. The Town of Estes Park will reevaluate this decision as more information becomes available during the next two weeks. The next event involving animals will not take place for another month.
According to the Colorado Department of Agriculture, EHV-1 is not transmissible to people but it can be a serious equine disease. The most common way for EHV-1 to spread is by direct horse-to-horse contact. For more information on EHV-1, please visit the Colorado Department of Agriculture website at www.colorado.gov/ag.
