Expect Road Closures As Reconstruction Continues Along Moccasin Bypass

Beginning March 15, the Moccasin bypass will be closed to through traffic from Riverside Drive near the Aerial Tramway entrance to the east near the emergency entrance to the Estes Park Medical Center. LaFarge North America, contractor for the Town of Estes Park Public Works Department, is reconstructing a portion of the roadway.

For approximately four weeks, traffic will be detoured through downtown and drivers are encouraged to watch construction signage for dates and detour information. Prospect Avenue and the eastern entrance to Estes Park Medical Center will remain open during this phase of reconstruction. Questions may be directed to Greg Sievers, Project Manager, at 970-577-3586 or Mike Todd of Cornerstone Engineering, at 970-586-2458. A small section of Stanley Avenue is also scheduled to be closed March 22 – 24 as local contractor A-1 Excavating, Inc., continues utility relocation along the route.

Stanley Avenue will be barricaded between Comanche Drive and Prospect Avenue and no through traffic will be allowed. Traffic from the east will be able to access the Estes Park Medical Center and other local streets via Highway 7, the unrestricted portion of Stanley Avenue and Prospect Avenue, which will remain open during this phase. Work should be completed in three days barring unforeseen difficulties or poor weather conditions. Another phase of the project will include closure of Prospect Avenue from Stanley Avenue to the Estes Park Medical Center and is tentatively scheduled to take place beginning April 19. Detailed information will be released when available.

The Moccasin bypass has some of the poorest pavement conditions in Estes Park. With current and projected traffic and pedestrian volumes, the Town of Estes Park has targeted the roadway for major capital improvements as part of its Street Improvement Program. The Town is expediting this project in order for it to be complete by the busy summer season. For more information about the Public Works Department, please www.estes.org/publicworks.
