Estes Valley Fire Fighters Battle Structure Fire In Canyon
At 3:47 p.m. on October 25, 2011 the Estes Valley Fire Protection District was paged to 2359 Big Thompson Canyon for a structure fire.
The first arriving engine reported a well involved structure fire with power lines involved and initiated an exterior attack due to extremely hazardous conditions caused by the power line and a partial roof collapse. The occupants were not at home.
Highway 34 was closed for a period of time while firefighters drafted water from the Big Thompson River to fight the fire. The fire was brought under control at approximately 4:30 pm and firefighters remained on scene until 8pm extinguishing hot spots and searching for any hidden fire in the structure. There were no injuries.
Mutual aid was provided by the Big Thompson Canyon Volunteer Fire Department. Estes Park Light and Power also assisted with de-energizing and securing the power line that was involved.
The house sustained heavy damage and investigations into the cause are on-going.
