Estes Valley Community Fund Committee

Over the past weeks there have been five bi-weekly articles published in the Estes Park newspapers under the banner Changing Lives in the Estes Valley. As noted at the end of each article, they were written by the Estes Valley Community Fund Committee of the Community Foundation of Northern Colorado. What is the Estes Valley Community Fund Committee, and what is its connection with the Community Foundation of Northern Colorado?

The Community Foundation of Northern Colorado was founded in Ft. Collins in 1975. The Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization which provides services to persons in Larimer County who wish to establish donor-advised funds, endowment funds, trusts, etc. for their philanthropic goals. Over the years a number of permanent endowment funds were established at the Foundation which required that the annual income of the funds be directed as unrestricted funds to Estes Valley charities. There are also endowment funds which require the annual income go to specific types of charities in the Estes Valley (such as affordable housing, public education, etc.).

The Estes Valley Community Fund Committee was set up to oversee the annual distribution of these grants from the Estes Valley endowment funds at the Foundation. And that, indeed, is one important part of the Committee’s mandate. But the Committee has also been working in recent years to raise funds for, and awareness of, local charitable service organizations in the Estes Valley.

Which brings us to this series of bi-weekly articles. Early in 2008 the 8 members of the Committee decided to begin an aggressive information/education program by writing a series of bi-weekly articles in both local newspapers. These articles will highlight all of the local charities in individual articles, as well as articles on estate planning, tax issues, and ways the Estes Valley community can support our local charities.

The eight members of the Committee are all from Estes Park, and we are dedicated to do whatever we can to promote gifting and philanthropy in the Estes Valley. Our names and phone numbers appear at the end of each article, and the reader is welcome to contact any of us for more information. None of us are attorneys or certified financial planners.

Rather, our purpose is to help direct you, the reader, to those who can help you meet your charitable goals. It is our hope that this emphasis on gifting/philanthropy will result in stronger funding and support of our local charities, which in turn will benefit all of us in the community.

The Community Foundation of Northern Colorado office is located at 4745 Wheaton Drive, Suite 100, Ft. Collins, CO 80525. Their phone number is 970-224-3462, and their website is www.CommunityFoundationNC.org. The services offered by the Foundation can be a wonderful way to create and leave a legacy for future generations through your charitable gifting.
