Estes Park Plans Seasonal Free Shuttle Service For 2008

Following its first two seasons of success, Town officials have approved several modifications to the free Shopper Shuttle system that begins operations on June 28. In this, the final year of the three-year experimental program, scheduling changes, along with route modifications have been established.

Shuttles will operate daily through Labor Day. After Sept. 1, the Shuttles will operate on Saturdays and Sundays through September.

The core downtown Elkhorn Avenue and Big Thompson Avenue routes (Red and Blue routes) will begin each day leaving from the Estes Park Visitors Center at 10 a.m. The last shuttle of the day on those two routes will depart from the Visitors Center at 8:30 p.m.

The route that travels south and west of the downtown area campground begins its rounds from the Estes Park Visitors Center at 10 a.m. while the last shuttle of the day on that route leaves the Visitors Center at 8 p.m.
The route along Elkhorn Avenue will be the same as in past years while the Stanley Hotel was added as a stop on the Big Thompson Avenue route.

Two new stops, one at the Estes Park Center-YMCA of the Rockies and the other at Marys Lake Lodge, were added to the Brown-Southwest “campground” route and three were eliminated. Based on ridership statistics all stops made on Highway 7 were eliminated.

The Town-sponsored shuttles remain connected to Rocky Mountain National Park’s express Hiker Shuttle that transports people from the Visitors Center to the Park & Ride lot on Bear Lake Road.
