New for 2014, the quintessential mountain village of Estes Park will debut a brand new winter celebration for 2014, the Winter Warm Up. Held during Martin Luther King Jr. weekend (January 17-20), the event will feature a mix of family-friendly and adult-oriented activities including whiskey tasting at the Whiskey Warm Up and free entrance day at Rocky Mountain National Park.

Winter Warm Up will kick-off with whiskey-related special menus and live music at venues throughout the village from Friday through Monday. On Saturday, January 18, there will be a whiskey tasting event, the Whiskey Warm Up, downtown in the heart of the village. Attendees will enjoy live music, unlimited tastings from Colorado’s distilleries and quick tasting seminars offered by the Stanley Hotel’s whiskey experts. Advance tickets for the Whiskey Warm Up are $45 each or $80 per pair, available online at

In celebration of the event, the Stanley Hotel will be holding several ‘Whiskey University’ tasting classes at the hotel during the weekend. The Stanley Hotel’s Cascade Restaurant whiskey bar boasts the largest selection of whiskies in Colorado, and possibly the West, with more than 580 different labels from Colorado, the U.S. and abroad.

For families, there will be a children’s activity area on Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. next to the downtown ice rink. Pony rides, face painting, sweet treats and more will be available to keep the younger guests warm. Whiskey Warm-Up ticket holders will enjoy all family activities free of charge.

Monday, January 20 is one of only a handful of days during the year that Rocky Mountain National Park offers free entrance into the park. Groups can hike or snowshoe, take in the views and watch the wildlife. Snowshoe, ski and sledding gear is all available for rent in the village and guides also offer their services to assist in a new activity or help athletes hone their skills. Winter is a beautiful time to explore Rocky Mountain National Park.

The Winter Warm Up and Whiskey Warm Up events are being held in lieu of the Estes Park Winter Festival in 2014, due to the Estes Park fairgrounds building a new event complex that will be home to Winter Festival in 2015.
