ARD Sponsors Trustee Candidate Forum

As an organization concerned with the future of Estes Park, the Association for Responsible Development (ARD) will once again sponsor an open public forum where local residents can submit questions to individuals running for the three available Town Trustee positions. The event will be held in the Board Room of Town Hall between 6:30 and 9:00 p.m. and will be broadcast live and video recorded by the Town of Estes Park.

The forum will be moderated by ARD and open to the public. Each candidate will be provided with four questions from ARD in advance of the forum. After opening statements the moderator will ask each candidate one of the four questions provided by ARD. Each candidate will respond to the same question and responses will be limited to two minutes. To promote active participation, the public will have an opportunity to provide written questions to the moderator. The questions may be on any topic relevant to the Town however, they will be screened to ensure appropriateness for the event and to avoid repetition.

The ARD forum, together with a candidate forum sponsored by the League of Women Voters (March 15), provides an excellent opportunity for the public to meet the Trustee candidates and judge their responses to a number of questions and issues important to the Town of Estes Park.

The membership of ARD views the forum on March 8th to be vital in the process of evaluating who can best lead the Town over the ensuing years. Many topics are on the Trustee’s agenda including the Town budget, the future direction of tourism, and the state of facilities in Estes Park needed to host a large tourist population in the summer months. In addition to the Trustee forum, ARD is hosting speakers at their monthly meetings in 2012 that address a broad list of issues including preservation of the Town’s natural resources, efforts to increase tourism by the “Visit Estes Park” group, the role of Accessory Dwelling Units, and a Mayoral forum.

ARD hopes that a large audience will attend and participate in the Trustee forum.
